What is Dysport?

Like Botox, Dysport is an injectable neurotoxin treatment that works by causing temporary paralysis to the muscles along the face, that cause wrinkles and expression lines to occur. Dysport works by reducing the activity of these treated muscles and prevents the overlying skin from folding over onto itself, which as we mentioned, creates facial wrinkles and fine lines. Like Botox, Dysport uses the botulinum-toxin-A as its active ingredient, and can be extremely effective at treating dynamic wrinkles along many areas of the face, but according to some experts it works best along the eyebrows and forehead region. However, results will vary from patient to patient and its best to let Dr. Rollins and his team to help decide which treatment may be right for you. As Dysport is able to stifle these facial muscles, it allows the skin above time to smooth itself out and restore its smoothness and overall texture. Also like Botox, Dysport has a number of other off label uses as well in the medical community.

Benefits of Dysport
Dysport is a highly effective neuorotoxin treatment, and while some patients might prefer Botox, others may see better results with Dysport – however this varies patient to patient, and issue to issue. While it may not be as popular as Botox, Dysport offers a number of benefits and has a very similar mechanism of action to Botox.

Dysport Versus Botox

Dysport and Botox are very similar in their treatment, as both are neuromodulators that make use of the botulinum-toxin-A. They both work by temporarily blocking the nerves that cause muscles along the face to contract, and in doing so allow the skin above time to smooth itself out and for facial wrinkles to improve. According to many patients, Dysport can often have a quicker onset and offer somewhat faster results. But results may not last as long as they would with Botox treatment. Some patients have even claimed to see improved results within two days of treatment, while Botox results may take upwards of a week or two to appear. In addition, often times patients who have used Botox frequently, may not see as good results with it, and may do better to switch to Dysport.
